 Luton Canine Society Premier Open Show. Judge: Mrs J. Crang (Linoaks). Ritzilyn Rock On Tommy, 3rd Minor Puppy Dog/Bitch, 2nd Puppy Dog. Messano Phonafriend, 1st Post Graduate Bitch. Messano Give Me Faith, 1st Veteran Dog/Bitch. A very enjoyable show, especially with Faith being awarded 1st in Veteran, with her litter brothers Messano Golden Opportunity and Messano Golden Challenger 2nd and 3rd respectively in the same class. A compliment to their father Messano Blueprint and mother Tyrocoll Spice girl For Messano (a Boysie daughter). This was our last show attended in 2007 and we look forward to 2008 with our 'show team'. Thanks to all of you who log on to our website regularly to follow our kennels progress.

 Ladies Kennel Association Championship Show. Judge: Mrs H. Morris (Sandusky). Ritzilyn Rock On Tommy, 3rd Minor Puppy Dog, VHC Puppy Dog. The 3rd place in Minor Puppy qualified Tommy for Crufts 2008 at his first Championship Show! He will hopefully attend with Otis, Sally & Sunny.

 Introducing Ritzilyn Rock On Tommy. Tommy joined us at Messano in June 2007 and has quickly become the spoiled boy (apart from Paul & George!) in the Messano household. Tommy should be making his show debut on the weekend of 17/18th November.
We are very grateful for George and Lynne Hennessy for trusting us with Tommy, he has a lot to live up to, superseding G. G. Grandfather Boysie as the 'man of the house'.

 We did not attend any shows this weekend. Instead, while Paul 'held the fort' at home, Julie flew up to Inverness in Scotland to see a litter of Tina Thomas' puppies from Messano Nelly Moser sired by Messano Otis Redding.

 Thames Estuary Canine Society Open Show. Judge: Mrs B. Baskett (Lestronde). Messano Phonafriend 1st Post Graduate Bitch. we were very pleased with this result, as it was Beattie's first show since June and she was in competition with some very nice bitches. Sunny (Messano Riseand Shine) has now been withdrawn from showing while she changes her 'clothes'. She should be back in the ring again in the spring.

 East Anglian Gundog Society Open Show. Judge: Mrs C. Benson (Goldenquest). Messano Riseand Shine 2nd Puppy. At the same show, Nadine Barber's Messano Golden Opportunity (Chester) won the Veteran class. This qualified Chester for the Best In Show competition, where he was awarded Best In Show 4. Well done Chester!

 Tina & Barbara Thomas' Messano Nelly Moser (Lois) produced her first litter by Messano Otis Redding. There are 6 bitches and 2 dogs.  Ashford, Faversham & District Canine Society Open Show. Judge: Nikki Hughes (Aymsbury). Messano Riseand Shine 1st Puppy & Best Puppy. Messano Mustang Sally, 1st Limit. This was Sally's first show since 6th August 2006, so we were pleased with the result. We did not stay for the Puppy group, as the show was very badly organised and would have taken place very late in the day.

 Darcey has gone to live with Bosley, one of her brothers. She was 15-weeks when she left, having spent more than 10 weeks in total with us. She has settled in very well with Alan, Janet and Bosley, we miss her as she is a very affectionate and endearing puppy and we had got used to her being with us.  Messano Quest For Gold won Best Dog and Best Of Breed and finally 3rd in the Group at a show in The Netherlands. Well done Elvira and Nelson.

 We had a very relaxing holiday with 8 other friends in a villa on Majorca. We ate well, drunk well, laid in the sun and swam in our own pool.. A real lazy week with plenty of sleep! We are very grateful to Emma (our daughter) who dog sat for us. No easy feat when there are eight dogs to care for.  Rotterdam Championship Show (The Netherlands). Judge: Mrs V. Burns (Abnalls). Broos' Messano Ramsey Lewis, 1st Puppy Dog, Kloek's Messano Quest For Gold, 1st Intermediate Dog. Well done Ramsy and Nelson, for flying the Messano flag for us in Holland.

 We travelled to Belgium to watch The Golden Retriever Club Of Belgium Championship Show. We had a very enjoyable weekend and met with Nelson from our 'Q' litter and Ramsy from our 'S' litter. The weather was hot and sunny and we enjoyed seeing lots of new dogs and meeting the Belgian exhibitors, who were friendly and very hospitable.

 The Golden Retriever Club Championship Show. We did not exhibit any of our own dogs at this show, but Elvira Kloek from The Netherlands brought Messano Quest For Gold (Nelson) over to exhibit and Julie handled him in his class. Nelson won his first ever championship show class in the UK under Mrs Heather Morss (Xanthos) in Yearling Dog. This win qualifies Nelson for Crufts 2008. Well done Nelson!  Sunny is six months old today, and (Roxy's whelping allowing), should go to her first show at the Suffolk Show on Thursday. She has now started going for a short walk with her mum and the rest of the girls a few times a week. For a photo of her returning home, click here.

 Sadly we have to report that India is not going to have any puppies. She was carrying a litter until six weeks in whelp, but unfortunately she has lost them. This is a great dissapointment for us all, but especially her owner, Jenny; the most important thing is that India is okay.

 Julie was invited to judge at the Golden Retriever Club of The Netherlands. She judged the Baby Puppy and Puppy males class and had a very enjoyable time. Julie had a chance to meet with Nelson, from our 'Q' litter & Ramsy from our 'R' litter. Click here to see some photos of them both.

 We are pleased to confirm that both Roxy and India are in whelp and we look forward to the arrival of the puppies around 1st June. This will be the first time in more than 23 years that we have had two litters simultaneously, so we don't really know what to expect!

Today Otis' second 'lady' Rosie (Choriand Charming Rose With Hessonite), gave birth to her puppies. She had 7 puppies, 4 bitches & 3 dogs. A photo can be seen of the proud mum and babies if you click here. All puppies from this litter already have homes arranged for them.

 Today we had a scare with Messano Give Me Faith. We noticed that she was a bit subdued and during a physical examination we found a discharge from her vulva. This was an ominous warning sign and we took her to the vets who confirmed our fears that Faith was suffering from a condition called 'Pyometra'. This is a serious infection of the womb and can result in death if not treated immediately. She was booked in by our Vet for an emergency spay, which resulted in a womb full of pus being removed in a delicate operation. We are pleased to announce that the operation was a complete success and Faith has made a full recovery and has joined Paul and the other dogs on their daily walk. This is a warning to all owners of unspayed bitches, keep a close eye on them for the weeks after they have been in season, if we had not immediately suspected pyometra,it may have been a sad outcome.

Gundog Training day at Debach, Suffolk. Paul took Beattie to a beginners gundog training day. This involved retrieving dummies from land and water and basic obedience. Beattie enjoyed her day but was very tired at the end. For a group photo taken at the training, click here.

Paul, Julie & Lou Sewell are pleased to announce the arrival of Otis' (Messano Otis Redding) first litter today. There are 8 dogs and 1 bitch. The mother is Abbie (Messano Nothing Sweeter) from our 'N' litter.
There are a few dogs available (we never guessed that there would be 8 males!). Rebecca Hargood is the owner, and can be contacted by e-mail - Rebecca's e-mail. We have posted a couple of photos of the proud mother, with her babies here, and will add photos as the puppies grow.

This was Faith's first show for many years, and she enjoyed being back in the ring. It was the first time that she had been to a show with her daughter, Beattie. Messano Minnie The Moocher. Roxy was short-listed in Post Graduate Bitch, which we were very pleased with, as there were 20 present in the class and it was her first Championship show since she was a puppy!
