 Sleaford & District Canine Society Open Show. Judge: Mrs S. Norris. Messano Minnie The Moocher, 2nd Open. This was Roxy's first show since 2004, so we were pleased with the result.

 Midland Golden Retriever Club Championship Show. We did not have any of our dogs at this show, but Julie handled Pauline Hamilton's Messano Quest For Fame (from our 'Q' litter) in the puppy dog class. Rocky acquitted himself very well, as he was awarded Highly Commended by the Judge, Mrs H. Avis (Glenavis). To see a couple of photos of Rocky taken at a recent show, click here.

 Between the hours of 7.00 pm and midnight, Sally produced her first litter of 8 puppies. Their father is Ritzilyn Male Order JW and the litter consists of 5 bitches and 3 dogs.

 We have no shows planned at the moment, most of our dogs have lost their coats.
We have a few pieces of news to report, firstly, we are pleased to confirm that Sally is in whelp and we expect the puppies to arrive around the 27th November. We will hopefully start a new 'R litter Puppy Diary' nearer the time.
We recently brought home 'Bandit', a male dog that we bred from our 'L' litter. Due to tragic circumstances with his owners family, he could no longer stay with them, and fortunately the note that we add to all our puppies paperwork when they go was followed in this case, and we were contacted and asked to find a home for Bandit.
He is a very handsome, affectionate dog, and it was no problem in placing him in a new home, Bandit has gone to live as a companion to Otis and his family and seems to have settled in very well. I have posted a few photographs of Bandit here.

Lowestoft, Oulton Broad & District Canine Society Open Show. Judge: Mrs P. Mottershaw (Elangeni, Jersey).
Messano dogs had a very successful day at the show, with 4 different dogs winning all four classes, Best of breed, Reserve Best of Breed, Best Puppy and Gundog Puppy Group 1!
The winners were:
1st Junior - Pauline Hamilton's Rocky (Messano Quest For Fame)
1st Graduate - Jenny Bowden's Jenna (Messano Spinning Jenny)
1st Post Graduate - Nadine & Pat Barber's Dolly (Messano Nora Batty)
1st Open - Jenny Bowden's India (Messano Indian Gold)
Reserve Open - Messano Otis Redding
India also achieved Best Of Breed, Jenna was Reserve Best Of Breed and Rocky was Best Puppy and Gundog Puppy Group 1.

Due to the time that we spent looking for Mopi, a holiday in Corfu and a lack of suitable shows, we went to our first show today for a month.
Worksop & District Open Show. Judge: N. Hughes (Aymsbury). Messano Phonafriend, 1st Junior, 2nd Graduate, 2nd Post Graduate. This was Beattie's last show in Junior, she achieved 22 Junior Warrant points in total. Unfortunately her coat has not been in full bloom for the past couple of months, and this counted against her.
Next week we hope to have Otis (Messano Otis Redding) back in the ring, he is looking good at the moment so watch this space!
Sally Messano Mustang Sally, is in season and should hopefully be mated to Ritzilyn Male Order JW next week.

 Good News! This morning we finally managed to find Mopi! After 4 days and nights away, we had a phone call from someone who had read one of our posters, which ultimately resulted in the end of Mopi's adventure.
She is now back home, with all her pads worn away, very lame, tired wet and bedraggled, but seems to be in good health otherwise.
We are sure that most of you will understand the relief that we now feel. We know that she is 'only a dog', but to us is very special and it was like losing part of our family.
We will try not to spoil her too much, but it's hard not to!
We can now enjoy the weekend that we thought was going to be a continuation of the past few stressful days.
I wish that we could ask Mopi what had hapened while she was away, I bet that she would have a few tales to tell.

 Urgent! Messano Jitterbug (Mopi) went missing on her walk today, please can everyone keep a look out for her. She is not a wanderer, and is likely to be scared and confused wherever she may be. We have put notices up in the local area, notified the dog wardens and Vets etc.

Today was a very sad day for us all at Messano, we had to say goodbye to our special Boysie (Ch Ritzilyn Barrow Boy For Messano). Boysie had been diagnosed with Lymphoma several weeks ago, and at first the steroids kept the disease under control and he lived a normal life. In the few days before his death, he went downhill rapidly, and we knew the time was right to say goodbye when he refused to eat. This was something that he never did before and for Boysie to refuse food was a sign that he had given up the fight.We owe this dog a great deal, all the six remaining Messano bitches are either daughter, grand-daughters or great-grandaughter of Boysie and they all have his zest for life and the same outgoing temperament. We will be constantly reminded of Boysie each time that we see his progeny, and we certainly will never forget the pride and love that sharing life with this great dog brought us. We have been touched by all the lovely messages that we have received from people, many with a reminiscence of how they remembered him in his glory days - thank-you for your condolences, they are much appreciated.

This was a good show for Beattie's father, Ritzilyn Manhattan, he was awarded his third Challenge Certificate, so will now be known as Show Champion Ritzilyn Manhattan. Well done Truman!

We have received the results of Beattie's (Messano Phonafriend) hip score. They are7-7, which is the same as her father. We are obviously very pleased that the score is at a level that we can breed from Beattie in the future.

Crufts Championship Show. We had Sally entered today, but due to lack of coat, she did not attend. The only Messano present today was Nadine Barber's Dolly (Messano Nora Batty). Dolly was placed very well, earning a reserve in Undergraduate. Well done Nadine & Dolly! Julie handled Paul's Aunt Gill's Large Munsterlanders that she shares in partnership, and was awarded Best Puppy with Anna.
